40 percent of Citrix System employees purchased a Mac when given $2100 towards a new computer for the company's Bring Your Own Computer to Work program.

The strategy was an attempt to cut costs incurred in the IT department and aimed to increase employee satisfaction. Workers were allowed to chose whichever computer they wished to use for both work and personal use.
Of the 400 employees that participated in the program, 54 percent believed productivity increased while 17 percent of managers believed job satisfaction increased.

Citrix Systems also reported 20 percent savings on IT costs per person.
Although the workers were given a $2100 contribution towards their new computer, many workers opted for a more expensive computer with better capabilities. The company utilized desktop virtualization to enable both Mac OS X and Windows as needed. Citrix is hoping to have 20 percent of the company participating by the middle of next year.

A survey conducted last year by GroupLogic found that 40 percent of predominantly Windows-based enterprises have placed a high priority on achieving balance between Mac and Windows platforms. Over 70 percent of respondents reported having a number of Macs already in their organizations.

Apple has continued to target businesses with its other products such as the iPhone. Following the iPhone 3.0 firmware update, which offers a variety of new business-specific capabilities, an analyst report suggests developer interest has shifted toward enterprise apps. Of apps released in the recent quarter, 70 percent were geared for enterprise while 30 percent were aimed at consumers.
